It should be pointed out that Planned Parenthood does a lot more than give abortions. They provide services to prevent pregnancy and prevent STD's.
And, if 1/10 women rely on Medicaid, that's 9 out of 10 that do not, and would not go to Planned Parenthood or have a "government funded abortion", but would go to their own doctor, and pay for, or have private insurance pay for birth control and/or an abortion.
I'm not trying to discredit your statement, just adding to it.
What happens when the people in charge finally accept the 2 trillion dollar a year growth gap that is medicare/aid. Are we to accept those 1/10 decreased funding and possibly increased bad statistics.
Does anyone know exactly how much goes to abortions from public funding?

• Congress has barred the use of federal Medicaid funds to pay for abortions, except when the woman’s life would be endangered by a full-term pregnancy or in cases of rape or incest.
• Seventeen states use public funds to pay for abortions for some poor women, but only four do so voluntarily; the rest do so under a court order.[20] About 13% of all abortions in the United States are paid for with public funds[21] (virtually all from state governments).[22]
52,000 more Abortions under Bush than Clinton. When women and children are supported with good services, sexual education and a good economy. Less Abortions Happen. Clinton had them down to an ALL time record low.
Obama is not pro abortion. He wasnt going to vote yes on any bill that jeopardizes Roe vs Wade.
Trickle down is Proven not to work. It crashes the economy everytime the Repubs try it. Example:
Reagan, Bush Recession-- Clinton Economic Boom --- Bush Recession.
Please provide REAL FACTS and STATISTICS for this claim. I've seen articles about the abortion rate consistently on the decline.
Quote:
According to the Guttmacher Institute's 2005 survey of abortion providers, the abortion rate fell 9% in five years, to 19.4 abortions for every 1,000 women between the ages of 15 and 44; the 1.2 million abortions performed in 2005 numbered 25% fewer than the high of 1.6 million in 1990.
That's disgusting by the way that I am forced to fund something I find morally despicable and irresponsible.
But if abortions are made illegal you'll see a lot more third-trimester ABs. It's a horrible thing but the realistic, practical approach is to keep them "safe, legal and rare."
And meanwhile encourage education as a means of rising above aimless or destructive pop-culture values - Obama says this too. If the economy continues to worsen this could happen naturally.

From your article: "The problem is that no one can prove what complex chemistry of cause and effect, culture and calculation, explains the falling rates — and for people who have devoted their lives to this issue, there's no glory in achieving one's ends if the means are anathema. Pro-choice groups credit comprehensive sex education and access to contraception, strategies that social conservatives often resist. Pro-lifers credit campaigns to tighten laws controlling access to abortion and to warn women about abortion's risks — which the other side deplores."

Maybe a combination of the two, ya reckon?
I have no idea. I was simply refuting the commenters claim that the abortion rate rose during the Bush presidency, which is false.
Thoughts? I think you should document this statement.
I believe at best it's far removed from context (possibly for medical reasons?) and at worst it's simply not true and baseless blather.
Actually, neither the right or the left have changed Roe v Wade since it has been instituted. It is always a talking point during the elections, but even the Republicans didn't touch it during their 6 years of power. Also, Obama can't change it. The Supreme Court can review it. The Legislature can propose a Constitutional amendment, but the president has zero power in determining how this debate will go.
(On another note regarding abortion, when I had teenagers living in the house, I was considering whether we should be able to abort up to age 16--I am just kidding.)
Well it seems if anyone disagrees with Obama's policies, they will be labeled a racist. This is unreal. I don't know if it is people racist against whites that throw this crap out there or just a way to protect Obama from criticism. But why don't you explain to me how I can support someone who I disagree with in matters that matter so much to me such as:
I am 100% for protecting the life of a baby from conception on. - Obama is for allowing full term abortions.
The killing of a baby because of inconvenience to the mother is not something I feel should be paid for by tax payers dollars. This is a very personal moral decision. - Obama supports my tax dollars going to the killing of human life.
Regardless if it helps or hurts the economy, I do not believe in redistribution of wealth as Obama put it to Joe. I believe in a flat tax with zero deductions. This is the only fair way to tax people and the wealthy would pay more simply because they make more. - Obama believes he is Robin Hood and he should be able to decide how much you make and who should get your money.
There are many more, but these are 3 key issues that would prevent me from supporting Obama. Now, I am not religious in any way shape or form, so don't start with the nutty evangelical crap.
Thoughts?
OK, here are my thoughts:
1. I've never heard of a "full term" abortion. A full term pregnancy is between 38 and 42 weeks of gestation.
2. Routine abortions are not performed beyond 20 weeks of gestation.
3. Currently, a viable fetus gestational age is between 22-24 weeks of gestation.
4. Some women do experience life/death issues related to pregnancy. What you deem "convenience" might be life threatening to others. It is inappropriate for me, you or anyone else to pass judgement on other people without being in their shoes, so to speak.
5. If you don't believe in abortion, then don't have one and raise your children accordingly so that they don't have one either.
6. Set an example for others to follow: adopt an unwanted child. You can always tell other people who oppose abortion to put their money where their mouths are and ADOPT. Although I did not legally adopted them, I did raise three children who were taken away from their biological mother because she was too irresponsible to care for them properly. I raised them as my own and I love them dearly. Was it easy? No. Did I have to make personal and financial sacrifices? Yes. Do I regret it? No.
7. You stated "I am 100% for protecting the life of a baby from conception on". Did you also mean protecting a baby after birth? Are you willing to spend your tax dollars on welfare mothers?
8. GWB and the Republican Congress from 2001 to 2006 could have enacted legislation that defined more clearly what "life threatening to the mother's life" is. But they did not. Frankly, I don't think the GOP is really interested in banning abortion altogether. Think about it: eliminating abortion would also eliminate one wedge issue that brings their "base" out to the polls every election. Further, consider this: if we banned abortion, allowed prayer in the classroom and banned gay marriage nationwide, the Republican base will be out of some powerful wedge issues that bring them out to the polls in droves. Watching the GOP leadership say one thing and then do another for the past 8 years has led me to that conclusion.
9. Banning abortion altogether in this country is not going to prevent women of means from flying overseas to obtain abortions in countries where abortion is legal and relatively safe. You see, real freedom is directly proportional to the amount of money you have. What are we going to do? Demand a pregnancy test from women in childbearing years before they're allowed to buy an airplane ticket or drive across the border?
10. To me, the best you can do to prevent abortions is to try and change behavior one individual at a time. Encourage people not to have abortions because they don't want to not because it is illegal. Set an example by adopting or raising an unwanted child.
11. If you don't want to support Obama, then don't. It is still a free country. But if abortion is so important to you, then take some positive steps yourself.
12. See what happens to your tax liability after Obama implements his tax policies. If you don't want Obama's tax cut, then send it to your favorite charity. Encourage others to do the same. A lot of rich people set up philanthropic foundations or make sizable charitable donations. These donations are also tax deductible.
