When it comes to managing this economy hasn't Bill Clinton become the best model for democrats to follow? Clinton mostly governed as a moderate not as a far left economist and we had a healthy economy. Even though we have different economic circumstances today is there any reason Obama should stray from Clintonomics?

Yup. Clinton was moderate and Obama will be as well (in spite of silly claims that he'll be a Communist by the Obamabashers). First and foremost, Obama is PRAGMATIST - as was Clinton.

Health Care Reform WILL be a big issue for Obama (as it was during the Clinton Administration (mostly because of Hillary)) - BUT it will have to take a back seat to getting the economy back on it's feet. Obama has inherited a massive economic mess to clean up.

I agree. I just hope he gets it done eventually.

I think it will, but first things first. We need to get the economy settled down first.

No. Clintonomics is part of the reason we're in this mess now. His passage of NAFTA was disastrous for the middle class. Made a bunch of rich folks a lot richer, but for the working class, it was a bullet in the back. It just didn't happen overnight.

Jobs moving overseas, the end of American manufacturing, stagnating wages... it's the result of the economic policies of the past 28 years. Reagan started it. Bush 1 did nothing to stop it. Clinton accelerated it, and Bush 2 whipped it along even faster.

The economic "crisis" has been predicted for years now. But no one who mattered listened. Remember when everyone called Perot a nut with all his little charts, talking about that "great sucking sound" of our jobs going south and east? The little nut was right after all.

Obama doesn't need to look to Clinton. He needs to look to FDR.

Based on his proposals and the people he's surrounded himself with, it looks like he's moving towards a blend of both.

I have a background in Economics and I am a firm believer in laissez-faire. I have problems with the Democratic party because they do not seem to understand the fact that free market Economics has worked in many places including Singapore, Hong Kong and China. Although we are dealing with a situation where governmental intervention is almost fundamental, I feel like we should go back to free market Economics as soon as this crisis is over or maybe attempt to establish a mixed economic model where free market Economics can be combined with more effective oversight(not more governmental oversight). More governmental intervention is not the solution, although what we have currently is a very perverted version of laissez faire. Even with effective and calculated fiscal and monetary policies, I do not believe Obama will be able to "fix" the economy. Ultimately, the markets end up correcting by themselves and governmental intervention often does more harm than good. Due to the unprecented economic conditions we are facing, I think we are headed for at least 4 more years of economic misery.
