Default You've Elected a President based on...Nothing...Now, Proposing a Holiday in His Honor

...based on More Nothing.

Great Idea!

CJOnline / The Topeka Capital-Journal - Planning under way for Obama holiday

"...to secure a national holiday in Obama's honor, to organize celebrations around his inauguration and to celebrate the 200th birthday of President Abraham Lincoln, who was born on Feb. 12 1809..."

Don't be so skeered

But he hasn't done anything yet? What if he turns out to be even worse than Bush? Do we remove the holiday? George Washington was our first president, Abraham Lincoln restored the Union, Obama has...done nothing yet. We have presidents day for a reason, the more you make him seem larger than life the harder it will be when he screws up.

I'm trying very hard to accept Mr. Obama, and I can. The supporters though are making such very difficult. This is too far gone and way over the top.

There is already a President's Day to honor Washington (specifically) and Lincoln. If one chooses, add any other president to that holiday, even Obama. How many more federal holidays do we need? We have MLK day too. I think those two should suffice.

Uh, if I were hoping you wouldn't read the article, I wouldn't have posted the link.

You people really ARE brilliant, aren't you, all mind-reading and stuff.

Your thread title and your initial post imply it's a national effort. It's not. This belongs in the Topeka, KS forum.

The article does say "national holiday"...

I don't know...I'm assuming that this is based on the fact that he is the first President of color...nothing else, since we can't yet base a national holiday on his actions, although it would have been nice for the article to clarify this (if it is the case).

Perhaps one day the national holiday (if it happens) will stand for the first President of color and the fact that he was a great President. That's what I'm hoping for. And in any case, I'm certainly not going to judge him before he officially takes over the White House.
