The text at the "America Serves" @ Change.gov has changed since last week. Probably due to the exposure on the Examiner article (and probably due to exposure on this forum).
This is the text as of last week:
Quote:
Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year. Obama will encourage retiring Americans to serve by improving programs available for individuals over age 55, while at the same time promoting youth programs such as Youth Build and Head Start.

Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by setting a goal that all middle school and high school students do 50 hours of community service a year and by developing a plan so that all college students who conduct 100 hours of community service receive a universal and fully refundable tax credit ensuring that the first $4,000 of their college education is completely free. Obama will encourage retiring Americans to serve by improving programs available for individuals over age 55, while at the same time promoting youth programs such as Youth Build and Head Start.
Less than one week into his "Presidency" and already this guy is trying to lie to us. Way to go Mr. Obama.
Good catch! I've downloaded his proposals as of two weeks ago, anticipating he may be a bit of a "moving target" concerning his campaign proposals.
It would seem a good thing that SOME of his campaign proposals change as he gets information that wasn't available to him during the campaign. I have no problem with this as long as the core ideals remain in place. If it's a 180, he'll have to explain in depth to his supporters and the rest of us who are still very cautious, but optimistic.

In the real world, people and ideas change. With your argument, we'd still be living in caves because 'they work fine'.

I agree. People were upset with the possibility of a mandate, he thought it over and changed the proposition. That's not good leadership? People, I know you're not used to your administration actually taking your ideas into consideration. I know it will take a while to get used to. Just remain calm; it's not all that weird; some leaders do want to do what's best for their country while at the same time, having the people have a say.
Nothing there, right? Perhaps it's out for a little rewording to make it sound warm and fuzzy. Or perhaps a bit more vague, to insulate him from criticism if he failed to meet his stated goals.
Here's a cached version of what WAS there:

Busy guy that Obama, managing the economy, facing down Iran, rewriting the website.
What are you complaining about? First you all were mad because of "required," now you're mad about "setting a goal"?
How is he "lying to us", for Pete's sake?
