Kay Bailey too old? She is just about the same age as Biden, I'm sure you know she is an extremely well respected Republican in Texas. The Democrats would absolutely try to find a way to attack her, but Kay Bailey wouldn't have been the punching bag that motivated the liberal base like Palin.

On a side note, if she wins the Governors Primary against Perry there is no way the Democrats can beat her in the general next year.
