"*Town* went blue! I'm moving away"
"I'm so ashamed *state* went for Obama"
"Well, I know which towns to avoid in *state*...the red ones!"

Do people really care how their area votes in the elections? I wouldn't care if I was the only one voting Democratic in my whole state...

Yes. One of the reasons why I changed states. It's not Democrat/Republican as much as it's liberal/conservative.

I'd be happier living with conservative Democrats than I would liberal Republicans.

Yeah, people care. Politics is an extremely emotional business.

If I was the only one voting democratic in my state, I'd move away in a heartbeat.

To answer the OP's question, it's because the majority of Americans are really pretty simpleminded.

The problem is that people have made liberalism and conservatism into a lifestyle/culture.

People have forgotten the true meaning behind these political parties.

For some reason it is "trendy" to be liberal and if you are a conservative you are said to be an ignorant, racist redneck.

The only level headed Americans involved with politics seem to be the ones who lay right in the middle and vote according to their own values and beliefs rather than the expectations of an arbitrary label of one’s political party.

Considering the leftist agenda poses a severe danger to my way of life, yep, I don't want to be where they have too much power. This is the results of politics becoming about shoving your ideas down others' throats and using and abusing power and the government.
