As Republicans sort out the reasons for their defeat, they likely will overlook or dismiss the gorilla in the pulpit.

Which GOP Will Obama Face?
Three little letters, great big problem: G-O-D.
I'm bathing in holy water as I type.
To be more specific, the evangelical, right-wing, oogedy-boogedy branch of the GOP is what ails the erstwhile conservative party and will continue to afflict and marginalize its constituents if reckoning doesn't soon cometh.
Simply put: Armband religion is killing the Republican Party. And, the truth -- as long as we're setting ourselves free -- is that if one were to eavesdrop on private conversations among the party intelligentsia, one would hear precisely that.
The choir has become absurdly off-key, and many Republicans know it.
That's a positive and encouraging step. But it's not enough. They also have to divest themselves of their psychotic foreign policy ideas, which are encouraged by their religious right entanglements but not wholly dependent on them.
Finally the GOP is ready to dump the Religious Right
I'm not ready for them to dump the religious right. I hope the religious right hangs on, kicking and screaming. I want to see the GOP struggling to get away, with the religious right crying and threatening suicide. I want a loud and messy break-up. I want lawsuits and lawyers. I want the religious right to stalk the GOP and pick fights with any new group that the GOP tries to engage with.
As soon as they've finished dumping the religious whackadoodles, they need to ferret out the remaining neocons. Then, after another decade of penance, the GOP may be ready to re-enter the political mainstream. In the meantime, they need to suffer for all the longterm damage they've caused America.
Not very likely really that they are dumpoing the religious base. The same stories went arouhnd after Gore and Kerry won that the liberal left was dead i the democrtic party6.Didn't happen and it would happen now with the republicans.
They'll still vote Republican, though. No need to pander to them and besmirch your reputation - most of the values will still line up close enough for them to still support the GOP. I don't know why we ever did let the religious right take over so much policy making in the first place. Made us look ridiculous.
I think if God were political or cared, he/she would have thrown the religious right off the ship long ago. They don't represent him/her well. God, to me, is not reflected at all by the religious right. Most need a good psychotherapist more than church.
