The events of the past two weeks should be reassuring to anybody who feared that Obama would veer to the left or would suffer self-inflicted wounds because of his inexperience. He’s off to a start that nearly justifies the hype." - Brooks article
I have to agree that it looks like he will govern as a centrist. I also see that these are the same people that have been at the public trough all along. I surely don't want more of the same mediocrity we have had for what seems like forever but alas it is safe when you always pick the middle of the road types. I guess it will be business as usual in DC. Can't wait for the first major corruption scandal.

You claim that you support Obama as the winner, and that you haven't prejudged him, and that he hasn't taken office yet, so you're giving him the benefit of the doubt.

It seems that the OP needs to embrace a little intellectual honesty.

I'm sure you can't. Thanks for reading the articles, though. By "being at the public trough," do you mean they're people who have experience working in the government? You'd prefer a Sarah Palin, a William O. deWitt, a Brownie?

The people Obama is appointing aren't hacks, and his vetting review will probably extend quite a ways down the ranks, so you'll probably wait a while for that scandal you hope for. A real one, not a made up one.

I hope the ideas of Gates staying on and Jones joining please you. The IHT article points out that a mixed-bag, practical-minded, centrist - on average - group will be better able to hit the ground running - there'll be no time to argue or, thank God, push an ideology.

The David Brooks opinion piece lists I think five reasons why these are good choices so far.

I could care less who he put in as long as they are not career DC politicians. My goodness can't you people hear what you are saying. Is it good to put people in DC that make a career out of accepting lobbyist money, and perks, and then become lobbyist themselves. Don't you people see that you are being fooled. It is ironic but you scream and whine when the other party acts like idiots, steals your money, passes laws that infringe on your rights but when your party does the same it is good? So blind. There is no hope as long as you act like so stupid and oblivious to the obvious.

I didn't attack you or call you an A**.. But you're doing a great job of proving that point all on your own.

You can't seriously believe this is the change Obama promised!
Indeed. But they're so blinded by their loving adoration they can't be objective.

Here's the thing -- the man they put in the White House has very little federal experience. He decided to run for President shortly after locating the Senate washrooms. They elected him anyway.

Now, as president-elect, only two paths are logical as he forms his cabinet. He either plucks people he knows from the private sector and academia to fill his cabinet or he goes to the Dem. insiders. He's chosen the latter. Frankly, I would have been far more impressed and hopeful about change if he went to the former and wonder why he didn't. Surely, he rubbed elbows with worthies who weren't radical, I hope?

The irony in the path he's following is that if the country really wanted the Return of the Clintonistas, they would have elected Hillary herself! And even Hillary herself likely wouldn't have chosen as many of her husband's cronies as Obama is doing! (She reportedly hates Raum Emanuel, for instance.)

Should he appoint totally new faces, just for the sake of appointing totally new faces or should he find those he believes are most qualified for the position and have the best chance at getting things done.

I do not think every single past office holder was bad for the country, we shouldn't throw the baby out with the bath water.

He should live by his words..

He campaigned as an agent of change. He called Hillary a corrupted Washington Insider... He warned of those entrenched in D.C.'s broken ways.... all the while promising change....

His action speak quite differently.

What garbage. Your political instincts have thus far been far off the mark and obviously nothing has changed.

Obama is picking the best people available in order to HIT THE GROUND RUNNING. Does it make sense to pick all new people who must delay progress with a learning curve? Obama is decisive and wants people in place who can immediately have an impact in the manner than he sees fit to implement them as the Commander-In-Chief.

Get over those sour grapes and become part of the solution.
