reread what I wrote. it was a generic city example. ask a descendant of a slave who lives in the US, if they would rather live where they are at now, or the third world country where they come from. wow is right. how hard anyone tries to twist words. get real.
Why would anyone ask a descendant of a slave that question? What would be the point? Would you expect them to THANK white folks for enslaving and brutalizing their ancestors so that they could enjoy being an American citizen in the 21st century? Absurd. On another note: "Third world" nations are only horrible places to live (for most of their inhabitants) because Europeans and Americans managed to destroy their cultures and native habitats through colonization for the last two centuries.
I could find a lot to complain about to, but that would be absurd. slavery has been around since the beginning of time. how long are we gonna whine? it's been long since gone. here's a big fat GET OVER IT for ya.

Yes - do ask a descendant of slavery...
But not your question about Atlanta or some other city.
Ask them "Would you be willing to accept your ancestor's slavery in trade for the comfort you have now?"
Or, better still, just tell them how much better off they are, because of their ancestor's slavery! Then report back to us...
After you have gotten out of the hospital.
And, JMarquise?
Isn't it just a bit convenient that you are forgetting the 10,000's of slaves who died without leaving children behind - either here or on the seas, coming here?
"Would you choose to go into slavery for your life and that of your children and your children's children for the next 3 to 5 generations, so that 350 years from now, your descendants may live in comfort?"
Hey, as soon as you're done with that one, talk to the Jews in America and Israel about the Pogroms and about WWII - and how fortunate they are to have Israel as a result and to be in America as a result!
And the Native Americans whose tribes have casinos? You can ask them about their good fortune as a result of how the white man treated them and treated with them - and if they would take the massive killing and violations of their peoples, in trade for the wealth oh so terribly many of them enjoy now.
slavery as an institution was bad, but it is easy to make the argument that it was good for some people in america. ask someone if they would rather live in atlanta, or some 3 world country and see what the response is.
They lost their ancestors and their family names. They lost their history and a future that might have been.
What do you not agree with? Calling it batsh*t without saying why or how you disagree with the article isn't exactly enlightening. I, for example, agree with about half of it, but his point of view isn't "batsh*t..." it's valid and some of it is verifiable fact (95% disease deaths, etc).
Ok. Let me give you one example of "batsh*t" stuff in his point of view, because his so-called verifiable facts have holes in them big enough for a fleet of Mack Trucks (italics, red, and bolding are mine.):
"...the slave population never exceeded 20% of the national total (amounting to 12% at the time of the Civil War). This means that at least 80% of the work force remained free laborers."
Oh, really?
Of that "80%," how many were male? How many were under the age of 15 or 80 and above? That is, how many people were really in that work force?
In 1860, 31% of all whites were males between 15 and 79 years old, a total of ~8.3 million men.
In 1860, there were ~3.9 million slaves - less than 13% of the total population, but almost 50% of that white work force or 33% of the total. Even if you restrict the count of slaves to certain ages, you will get more than 20% of the working population at a time when the percentage of slaves had dropped considerably.
I'm not going to look at the 1790 - 1810 census numbers just now, but bet that the percentage of "work force" goes up over 30% and closer to 40% than not - even pretending that slaves 5-15 were not out picking cotton or doing other work.
