Los Angeles is a Democratic city & no Republican wins here unless they are actually Democrats in everything but party affiliation like Governor Schwarzenegger. Republicans in California continue to lose every election & now all counties in SoCal [including San Diego] are Democratic except Orange counties.
The Latino population of Los Angeles is around 45% & they are Democrats just like the wealthy & middle-class Anglos\ Blacks\ Asians. Who else is left? A bunch of different political groups like the Liberations\ Greens-Socialists & the Republicans.

Not only is Villaragoisa a racist but he is also harboring, aiding and abetting illegal alien criminals who in addition to being in this country illegally, are guilty of a multitude of other crimes. BTW, even if you are a corrupt, racist politician harboring, aiding and abetting is still a crime. Yet those of us who are non hispanic are supposed believe that if appointed he will miraculously adhere to the rule of law and treat non-latinos fairly simply by virtue of being appointed to a cabinet position?
Villaragoisa is racist and has a long documented history of being a very polarizing figure. In addition to not having the qualifications to fill a cabinet position, his well documented racist baggage simply adds to a long list of reasons that Obama did not appoint him to a cabinet position. Obama is trying to unite America and his selections are not predicated upon race/ethnicity based quotas. He is doing what he deems best for AMERICA AND ALL AMERICANS by surrounding himself with the best and the brightest, regardless of race or ethnicity.

While mexicans would love to proclaim that all white Americans who are against this illegal alien invasion are simply racist, FYI: despite the LaRaza talking points which have failed miserably in advancing it's delusional "New Civil Rights Movement". Americans of all races are sick of illegal aliens and the Americans of hispanic descent who support, aid and abet their presence in the US.
Villaragoisa may live in America but his patriotic loyalities resides elsewhere.

The mayor's name continues to surface, in part, because of growing pressure on Obama to appoint an ethnically diverse Cabinet and disappointment by some Latino leaders that he passed over New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson for secretary of State, nominating Sen. Hillary Clinton instead. "There's a growing angst. But we're still optimistic," said Janet MurguÃa, president of the National Council of La Raza.
It's unfortunate that we can't deport Villagaroisa or Janet Murguia. Both of whom are determined to turn this country into Amexico.

The trouble with your post is that you fail to provide proof or links to reports\ articles about Villaraigosa being a racist. I don't know if you live in LA because it is clearly a Latino-majority city. Aside from some Black\ crips vs Latino\ LA harbor gang problems in South LA, there is cohesion among the races in California. The irony is that gangs tend to kill their own people
Los Angeles is a "sanctuary" city because it is a Democratic city. The LAPD policy of not notifying ICE started well before Villaraigosa. The city council supports the policy & the Catholic bishop says his priests will resist cooperation with ICE. That's the reality in LA.
Now the issue of securing the border & stopping the flood of immigrants into the US is a different issue. One thing I expected from a Republican president was building a wall along the border [another Bush failure!]. But once the immigrants get into the country they should not be deported unless involved in crime. Control of the border is the solution.
Obama would be a fool to hire Villaragoisa for anything other than janitor, and even then he would be wise to be careful. I just moved my family out of the LA area of CA and I know the mayor quite well. He is a racist and a bigot and has no loyalty toward our country, though he can gicve a decent speech.
