Unbelievable. The Republican Congress was willing to give 700 billion to Wall Street, with no strings attached. But they vote against 14 billion to the automakers because the WORKERS aren't willing to compromise on their labor rights. Why should the workers take the fall? This is class warfare--nothing more, nothing less.

Honestly one thing that would help both groups out a lot would be to keep the companies in some kind of shape long enough that some kind of UHC plan could be enacted. I guess for whatever reason it's easier to blame capital for problems over labor.

Republicans have never been friends of workers. Remember, they were the ones who oppossed raising minimum wage every time it was suggested.

Pardon me, but the republicans are the ones who blew up the original Wall street bailout bill.

Unless and until the companies can restructure and forego the union "legacy" burden (you know, paying people a wage who don't work) these companies will be back with their hands out in 6 months.

It is the union contracts that are killing business. They just can't compete with the non-union shops that pay their pay half of what UAW workers get.

Yeah they really blew it up, then they loaded it with pork and passed it with no issues. What nobility and wisdom.

The unions already compromised. They instituted a two-tier system that will reach wage-parity with Toyota and Honda in two years.

Just like with the real estate collapse, the GOP and their toadies will blame the lowest people on the ladder for the entire problem. It was disgusting that they tried to blame low-income home buyers for the bubble collapse, and it's disgusting now that they're trying to blame the employees for the failure of the industry.

Republicans strongly opposed the financial industry bailout as well. That was one of the problems originally, the Republicans were too vocal with their opposition, with the Democrats not wanting to take blame. The Democrats original pushed the $700 billion bailout through to begin with.

Keep in mind that each time the minimum wage is raised, inflation also takes a leap. I would rather see structured minimum wage - for example, if you are over the age of 18, you should make more than someone who is 15 or 16. Just a thought.

Yep. Here's a link I provided in another thread that pretty much sums it up.

I just hope every single working American remembers who is responsible when they lose their jobs. These bozos took our money and gave it to the bankers without a single string attached. The bankers have used that money to give each other big bonuses and buy up other banks and have refused to give other businesses loans....driving them out of business. NOW they won't give a nickle to save millions of jobs unless the workers agree to work for food. These greedy evil men deserve to be stoned, not re-elected. You may think that this won't have an impact on you but I guarentee you that a year from now you will realize just how much it will impact everything in this country.
