"Corrupt ethnic lobby" is more like it than "strong vocal constituency."

I don't know what is so corrupt about it, in fact it would seem quite logical.

But why???
Israel is less than loyal and quite honestly causes us a great deal of grief at times. Not to mention benefit from huge sums of foreign aid.
They have been caught stealing military secrets and selling them to our very worst enemies. How do they rate such loyalty?
Collective guilt? I have nothing to feel guilty about. I have never harmed an Israeli citizen or a jewish american citizen. What guilt? Because of the holocaust? Perhaps Germany and the Russians should feel some guilt after all it was they who made it a mission to exterminate Jewish people.
Perhaps those in power in all the world who turned a blind eye to what the Nazi's were doing should feel some collective guilt. But most if not all are dead now.

"Logical" and "corrupt" aren't mutually exclusive categories. But in any event, here's one example:

Cuban American voters, maybe?
Why is the US steadfast in its sometime one way love affair with Israel?
Could the answer lie in the support of the Jewish community?
Of course there are geo-political and geo-strategic reasons as well. It's not such a bad thing having a military ally who is in striking distance of the oil rich middle east now is it?

Yes, actually it is such a bad thing, since the opportunity cost is unblemished friendship with the countries that actually produce the oil.
In 1948 Egypt, Iraq, Iran, Libya and Syria were all friends of the U.S., and Israel was a semi-satellite of the USSR. The Soviets had the brains to switch sides and leave us holding the bag supporting a squalid little apartheid regime with no oil.
