Tonight's news made it sound as if she would have difficulty disclosing financial info, some sort of nanny problem (probably didn't pay taxes) and a possible affair. Hmmm, all supposedly leaked by Patterson's office.
Why in the world did she withdraw her name from consideration at midnight?

The Hillary replacement is to be named tomorrow.

In a stunning revelation, a source close to Gov. David Paterson insisted this afternoon that the governor "had no intention" of picking Caroline Kennedy for New York's vacant senate seat - because she...was "mired in some potentially embarrassing personal issues," the source said, citing tax liabilities and worker compensation liabilities connected to the employment of a nanny.

The source also said the state of her marriage may have presented a problem as well.

KENNEDY NEVER HAD A CHANCE: SOURCE - New York Post

And (drum roll, please) the reason we didn't read about the affair:

A post today at Gawker.com, the media gossip website, repeats the rumor it first published several months ago -- that Times publisher Arthur Sulzberger Jr. may be romantically involved with Caroline Kennedy -- and argues that it's "a mostly legitimate question to ask."

the nytpicker: Should The NYT Report Rumored Sulzberger-Kennedy Affair? Gawker Says Yes. We Say No.
