I don't think the Dems are going to hold a special election. It would be too costly, for one thing. They'll figure out a way around Blagojevich.

While I'd like to think its possible, only 2 GOPer's have won senate seats in IL since 1950. The last was Fitzgerald in 1998 who beat Carol Mosley Braun (herself dogged by corruption charges) but despite the wind at his back, he won by less then 3 points.

Given the current disarray in the GOP and the history in IL its a long shot.

Given the idiots the GOP in Illinois have been running as of late (remember that their last choice was Keyes), I highly doubt it.

That being said, I would not be surprised if the next IL governor is a Republican.

Actually the last choice was Jack Ryan, who dropped out of the race with about 3 months to go, when his divorce records (which had been sealed by the court) somehow made it into the public domain.

Anyway, I fully expect the Illinois Senate to fight the special election tooth and nail. There's a very good chance, with the Democrat governor facing impeachment and prison, that a Republican can snatch up the seat.

I know. Its sad how retarded the people of Illinois can be. Its obvious that the Democratic Chicago Machine is very corrupt, and they are willing and ready to elect another Democrat from that same machine. Oh well, I guess the people of Illinois deserve every ounce of it; they never learn.

Just as they've been doing for years, the moronic voters in Illinois will continue to elect the corrupt, scandalous, criminal democrats.

Without a doubt.
