The Constitution empowers the US Senate to control its own membership. They can vote not to seat someone (even if elected), or they can seat someone conditionally, pending some sort of investigation...

Then I am furious and must just have sour grapes.

Democracy shouldn't be sold, and you better be sure that I would be mad at anyone who tries to compromise it.

If this were a corrupt Republican, I am sure you would be all up in arms about it.

But its not, its a Democrat, per usual.

But Powell v McCormack limits the scope of Congressional review.

Burris seems qualified to take office, regardless of how he attained the office, and it would seem that the how is something for the state to take up, not the fellow Senators.

Tom DeLay, Ted Stevens, Larry Craig, Sarah Palin, Mark Foley, Dennis Hastert, Bob Ney, Duke Cunningham, Jack Abramoff... Sorry, what were you saying about corrupt Democrats again?

Agree that Burris seems qualified, etc., but I do not trust Blago's appointment, and would tend to agree with those that will reject any candidate that he selects. I think Burris should be considered for appointment, along with other qualified candidates, after Blago's "right" to appoint has been nulified.

I think Rod should have appointed the cardinal. Then the GOP could have railed and called him corrupt!

I can't believe that Burris accepted the seat.

So how much did Blago get? What's he even still doing in office? Chicago machine politics once again! Doh!

At this point Rod is an elected official who has been convicted of absolutely nothing. That's why he's still in office.
