Feinstein and Rockefeller were both in on Bush's illegal activities. They are not principled. If they don't like Pannetta, it's a good sign he's one of the good guys.

Agreed, Feinstein is horrible and I hope she gets called out for supporting that crap.

My thoughts exactly. I didn't have much of an opinion on Panetta until I saw Feinstein's petulant response.

I'm all for him now.

I was listening to NPR this afternoon. They were talking like there are a lot of people who are really questioning the wisdom of this choice. Panetta has not "intelligence" experience.

Congrats to Bubba on getting yet another of his cabinet members into his unofficial 3rd term.

This one happens to be the first woman to chair the Intelligence Committee.

If Diane Feinstein is unhappy, he must be a good choice
Personally, I was quite surprised by the pick, but I think he'll do fine.

From the always thoughtful Jane Hamsher:

"There is insufficient space here on this blog to recount all the things that the Intelligence Committee has screwed up in recent years, but suffice to say that Feinstein enabled most of it. She has been a key Bush ally who cast critical votes in support of his most extremist assertions of power. Her default position is consistently to protect establishment power, and she never batted an eyelash about casting votes that were worth billions in defense contracts to firms owned by her husband. There are few people in public office more territorial and consumed by a sense of entitlement than Diane Feinstein."

One might ask just what exactly makes Panetta even remotely qualified to head the CIA?
No experience in the spy business. Other than being a political hack what qualifies him to head up the CIA? Out of all the career spooks none are qualified? No generals are qualified?
If I am wrong please educate me.
Because he is not a Bush man or a republican doesn't mean he can do the job or that he should do the job.

The word on the street is that most of the people that were Bush men had the hands on their torturing tripe and I'd assume this administration wants no part of that. And understandably so.
