This whole incident was nothing more than a publicity stunt by Burris.

He was told - beforehand - that he would be turned away, because he did not have the signature from the Illinois Secretary of State, and state seal necessary.

Furthermore, it's the Democrats who turned Burris - a Democrat - away.

Very interesting.

This is so far the only thing I can compliment the democrats on. They did the right thing.

Of course it's a publicity stunt. That's how most politicians do things.

This is pathetic and shows how screwed up our political system really is. It all started with Ill. politicians not doing their job and just got worse as things went along, truly embarrassing. Doesn't anyone see that this is ridiculous and just screwed up politics once again?

So the all white Democratic party senate denied entry of a black senator who was appointed legally by a sitting state governor? Hmmm, if it had been the Republican party I swear some of you would be screaming racist. But since it's the Democratic party there is no such cries of racism.

This American is far from weeping. Burris only wants in the Senate in this manner because he knows he couldn't win an election, lord knows he tried, and failed, in Illinois.

I do not want this man as my senator. He's already demonstrated hubris and lack of judgment in even accepting the seat, attempting to make it an issue of race, and turning it into an act of political theater.

If he truly cared about what us Illinoisians wanted, he would have turned Blago down, and allowed an appointment to be made by Lt. Gov. Quinn when he become interim governor upon Blago's removal from office.

It sucks but you are absolutely correct. Too many sheep willing to look the other way. There isn't such thing as principles anymore when it comes to politics, it is all partisan all the time and the sheep just follow the leader whoever that might be.

Personally I don't care about him one way or another. I'm just enjoying watching an all white Democratic party Senate deny access to the Senate floor to the only democratic party senator. Though the governor is in the middle of a scandal, he hasn't been indicted and his powers to appoint Obama's replacement has not be removed by the state legislature. The state legislature could have moved to prevent his appointing a senator and called for a special election to allow the voters to select Obama's replacement. They choose not to do this and so Blago had the legal right to select the senator. He selected this man, as is his right by law, and the Democratic party denied him access to the senate.
