Are you offended by Ms. Magazine's Obama cover?
Ms. Magazine Posits Obama as Super-Feminist - Political Machine - Politics Blog, Opinion and Analysis - AOL News
I hear some people are offended by the Obama cover for Ms. Magazine. The link above has a picture of it. I was wondering what you guys thought? My first reaction was, the statement on the shirt is too general (after all, Obama is not "the" face of feminism, he's just "one" face of feminism) but it didn't seem offensive to me.
Silly? Yes. Also dopey (but dopey covers often sell a lot of magazines). Anyway, is it offensive? What am I missing?

I took it as "a man is the face of feminism because women can't win the highest political office." So, men have to speak for "women's issues" because there's not enough of us (women) to fill the role. I don't know, I think a woman should be the face of feminism... Obama just doesn't come to mind when I think of it. It's not offensive but if Ms. has to explain their cover it was probably intended to be provocative.

I am not offended by the cover. I am, however, concerned that every group in America has felt so put down in the last 8 years that they are all expecting Obama to take care of them. He cannot be all things to all people. I believe he is the best president that we have had for women in a long time. I agree he is the best we have had for minorities. I believe he is the best we have had for gays, middle class, etc. etc. etc. However, he cannot possibly meet every agenda of every sub group. I believe he will try, but he will hit conflict between and among the groups and have to moderate. We all need to continue to support him as he travels this tight and risky road.

I'm so thankful to have a man in charge who will restore all that was stolen from us over the past two centuries. The rich will just have to pony-up come tax time and learn to give back what is due to all miniorities. YES WE CAN!!!

He looks like every feminist I've ever known.
Big and stocky, with small boobs, and confused about sexuality and ticked off at somebody.
There you have it in a nutshell.

Your candidate lost, boo hoo
Get over it.
And get used to being treated equally with all others.

Offensive - no. Stupid - yes. Does it make Obama looking cartoonish - yes.
Good grief, the man is heeded as a superhero, messiah, moses, etc.
Let's hope he does a great job along with the rest of government. We don't live in a dictatorship. Although with some of the posts on this forum, I think some people think we do or would like it if we did.

This is quite amazing considering he isn't even President yet.
As for the cover, as a woman who lived through women's lib and do not consider myself a feminist yet I believe in women's rights (these are 2 separate things incidently), I don't find this offensive but I do find it about the most ridiculous thing I've seen bar none since the campaign began (and it's still going, btw).
If Barack is a Feminist, then so am I. He is not and I am not. And beware the man who says he is .... they are the least likely to be. Any man who calls a woman "sweetie" is no feminist.
