I did watch and I am very proud to be an American. I pray this president can bring our country together again and make it what it once was. However, it will take all of us working with him to make this happen!!
I tuned in just before Aretha and was done during the middle of the poem. It reminded me of new years in Time Square, all those people and it was stinking cold outside! I would be doing the warm up and pee pee dance.
I think the crowd is plain disrespectful. Maybe I am just an old poop. The screaming and shouting is inappropriate. I about passed out when people started shouting and screaming during the invocation.
I don't know, I'm 32 and was appalled by all the chanting "Obama! Obama! Obama!" It's disrespectful. I voted for him, and if I could have attended the inauguration no WAY would I take part in that sort of behavior.
OMG, John Williams' arrangement with the clarinet, violin, cello and what else was it? (I had 2 kids screeching in the background so I didn't get to watch it like I'd love to have) was AMAZING.
I was on the phone with my husband, a McCain voter, when President Obama flubbed his swearing in lines a little bit. I won't hear the end of this. But come on, the entire occasion had to be a bit overwhelming and he had to have had so much on his mind. Give him that!
The Bushes were classy...seeing the transition of power was very nice and something I'm glad to witness.
I'm a bit dismayed by all the comparisons of Dr. Martin Luther King to President Obama though, for several reasons. Let the man have his own dream.
His daughters were precious. The older one will grow up to be a very beautiful woman, and the little one reminds me of cute little Rudy in the Cosby Show. I wasn't awfully fond of Michelle's outfit...not sure about the green gloves/shoes matching her dress either.
People chanting in the background at the wrong time reminds me of people who would walk around and stand up in the middle of Phantom of the Opera like it was just an ordinary movie. There is a time for everything, but apparently, some people see the inauguration as a concert instead of a solemn occasion.
I like how everything is very organized. How the transitioning goes and the whole process. I don't know how other countries do it and the rest of them just seem to have military coups.
BIBIT and LILY: so agree. I was appalled at the lack of decorum at a very solemn occasion. It seemed most disrespectful to me. I am sure the world views such things and thinks - Americans are a bunch of rude, crude, rowdy ruffians. I find it embarrassing.
A bit of news . . . both Senators Kennedy and Byrd had to be rushed out of Obama's luncheon for medical reasons. Kennedy apparently had a seizure and Byrd was disoriented but conscious. It just serves to remind me that in many ways - "the torch has passed" to a younger generation.
