Do you think U.S power in the world will strengthen or become weaker under Obama?

Obama is likely to sacrifice America's sovereignty in attempt to buy our way back to favor with the world.

It won't work, of course, but he'll still probably try it.

I'm of the opinion it doesn't matter much who is president. Politics these days is not much about ideology.

I wouldn't go so far as to say sovereignty is threatened.

The U.S will for sure be viewed in a better light. I also think U.S power will decline in terms of global prominence. One should think at what cost could U.S continue to go into wars because of strategical and geo-political interests. The world is not stupid.

I'm not convinced one will be able to blame Obama though. Power is not just brutal. He will indeed focus much more on diplomacy. It's difficult to say what will happen. Soon enough the neo-conservatives will want him to follow their agenda.

since carter has been in office, each and everytime a democrat has taken over potus, the US military has always lost alot of experienced people because they neither trust him or lose their sense of patriotism inside the military.

Most U.S allies are "bought". It's possible things will change to the better. Change in itself is meaningless. Obama doesn't seem to have the knowledge Ron Paul got about U.S history and its relations to nations in the old world.

I can only hope that our President will realize the futility of trying to maintain a dying empire way past the profitable stage in its existence. We are not and cannot afford to be the word's policeman. We need to let our competitors waste their own money on protecting the world instead of letting us pay the bill.

I believe we should strongly support American investment in America but not in the rest of the world. Let the people that are using our savings to build up the world take their own risk. That is the only way of letting the actual market balance risk and reward in the foreign investment decision.

Keep our money here and you are protected under our Law. Put it somewhere else and you are no longer protected. Good Luck.

A big decision point will arrive soon regarding how he decides to approach Afghanistan. If he decides to pursue the decision to forge ahead with increased deployments and prolonged combat action then we may very well be looking back in history to LBJ in 1965. I know he is getting quite a bit of analysis concerning this potential major abyss and if we do attempt to continue on with the current objectives and fail then our ability to project influence and power will be greatly compromised. An Afghanistan quagmire failure at this point will only encourage our enemies to further push our buttons. We had best get our own domestic economy and house in order now and very carefully broach major scale foreign interventions.

To actually answer the question, U.S. power will strengthen. President Obama understands that more soldiers or bigger weapons doesn't strengthen a nation. An overall approach involving diplomacy, economy, military force, infrastructure etc. determine the power of a nation. The jughead conservatives believe that military might is indicative of power but it isn't, it's simply one of the tools of power. The U.S. will always have more Nukes than every other nation. That gives us military leverage but not overall power. We're all fortunate that we TODAY have a President that understands that.
