He was sleeping during the inauguration for the same reason he sleeps during oral arguments and discussion of SC cases; he knows Scalia will tell him what to say, when to say it, and how to vote. This lying sack has no business on the Supreme Court.

If he was sleeping it is a shame. Despite his ideology or political affiliation he is a public servant and needs to represent himself in a particular manner. An inauguration of the new President is a major event in politics and is not meant to be slept through by public officials. If he needed a pick me up, he should have had his favorite soda around to get his caffeine boost.

Clarence Thomas is an "activist" judge. See article: http://www.nytimes.com/2005/07/06/op...06gewirtz.html

Since Thomas was a token nomination, the lack of Republican African Americans to choose from led the first Bush to pick someone who obviously has not proved worthy of such an honor.

that uncle tom has no right to be sitting on the Supreme Court.

So far as judicial activism goes, Justice Clarence Thomas is the Barry Bonds for striking down unconstitutional laws.

Ha! Ha! "Uncle Tom" is the derogatory term slung at any black that does not agree with predominant black victimology.

So you hate a black man that thinks for himself? So you hate a black man that believes in equal opportunity spelled out by the Constitution of the United States, instead of the "equal outcomes" and "economic justice" (socialism) that is so vehemently pushed down every unthinking persons' gullets by so-called advancement advocates?

Far be it from a black man to dare think that blacks have the brains and the abilities to compete without affirmative action (white patronization and paternalism)!!!!

Far be it from a black man to dare think that whites are NOT superior!

I agree completely, Uncle Thomas did not warrant being chosen for such an honor...and his habit of sleeping through oral arguments and then again at the inauguration only proves that point.

Without his daddy, Antonin Scalia, little Clarence seems totally lost.

Surely we are NOT talking about the same black man. But I CAN appreciate that it seems like you are referencing President Barack H Obama, a man whom I adore that I campaigned and voted for.

Yes, no one can blame anyone for sleeping through such a speech. I think it's obvious that Thomas has better things to do, places he'd rather be but was expected to be there.

Sleeping your way through that pretentious extremely costly show would make sense.
