Ahmadinejad Demands U.S. Apology For 'Crimes' Committed Against Iran

Jan 31 - - US President Barack Obama's offer to talk to Iran shows that America's policy of "domination" has failed, the Iran government spokesman said on Saturday.

"This request means Western ideology has become passive, that capitalist thought and the system of domination have failed," Gholam Hossein Elham was quoted as saying by the Mehr news agency.

"Negotiation is secondary, the main issue is that there is no way but for (the United States) to change," he added.

After nearly three decades of severed ties, Obama said shortly after taking office this month that he is willing to extend a diplomatic hand to Tehran if the Islamic republic is ready to "unclench its fist".

In response, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad launched a fresh tirade against the United States, demanding an apology for its "crimes" against Iran and saying he expected "deep and fundamental" change from Obama.

Iranian politicians frequently refer to the US administration as the "global arrogance", "domineering power" and "Great Satan".

Tensions with the United States have soared over Iran's nuclear drive and Ahmadinejad's vitriolic verbal attacks against Washington's close regional ally Israel.

Former US president George W. Bush refused to hold talks with the Islamic republic -- which he dubbed part of an "axis of evil" -- unless it suspended uranium enrichment, and never took a military option to thwart Tehran's atomic drive off the table.

The new administration of Obama has also refused to rule out any options -- including military strikes -- to stop Tehran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.

Iran denies any plans to build the bomb and insists its nuclear programme is solely aimed at peaceful ends.

Looks like Obama's got Iran reeling like the terrorist that have been reduced to name calling. And all he's done is offer to talk..Ahmadinejad looks like he's trying to save face with his people who want peace.

There is a strong move inside Iran, mostly the young people, to push for more freedoms and a more democratic government. We can only hope that this movement is successful before anything catastrophic happens involving Iran.

You make a good point, some think of Iran as some monolithic Islamic state with a people marching in lockstep with the Iran's Guardian Council, when nothing could be further from the truth. Fully 70% of Iran's population is below the age of 30. But, like any population, the US included, when their nation is perceived to be threatened by an outside force, the population rallies around the present regime. So, has been the case with Iran's moderates. Faced with the open hostility of the Bush administration the moderates lost significant support. Remember, in the days following 9/11, Iran played an active and positive role in both Iraq and Afghanistan only to subsequently named as part of the non-existent Axis of Evil.

Isn't it a good thing that repubs don't think what other countries think about the U.S. is important.

Default President Patty Cake - Obama

Closing Gitmo told them we acknowledge defeat in fighting terror.
Now you see why President Bush was upset when Princess/Premium Pelosi flew over there for talks.
Ever hear the phrase "We do not negotiate with terrorist."
That is why President Bush was a whole lot better fighting terrorist. He showed them he would waterboard them, and house them in a very special place.
That installed fear in the terrorist communities.
Obama has showed them, they will be given rights, just like any other American citizen.
With that, why would any terrorist be scared.
They know our prisons are nothing more than country clubs. You get free Cable TV, three meals aday, fresh clean clothing each day, a shower every day. A gym or exercise yard. Plus visitors. Shucks they even have a library.
Life in one of our prisons is better than the life they are in now, Like MOVING ON UP.
Iran knows Obama will only play "patty-cakes" with them.

So much for obama's theory of talking....
Maybe obama will offer him a tea party instead of a "talk"

QFT. We're finally well rid of our warmongering president, perhaps the Iranians will give theirs the boot in the next election. And if that happens, anything is possible.

Bush may have left office 10 days ago, but the problems he created in the name of the US will be around or a long time.

I crack up at the people who think that Obama's administration should have corrected 8 years of Bush bs already. Quite a disconnect there.
