Vatican criticizes Obama on abortion issue

Sat Jan 24, 9:29 am ET

VATICAN CITY – Vatican officials said Saturday they were disappointed by President Barack Obama's decision to end a ban on federal funding for international groups that perform abortions or provide information on them.

Monsignor Rino Fisichella, who heads the Vatican's Pontifical Academy for Life, urged Obama to listen to all voices in America without "the arrogance of those who, being in power, believe they can decide of life and death."

Fisichella said in an interview published Saturday in Corriere della Sera that "if this is one of President Obama's first acts, I have to say, in all due respect, that we're heading quickly toward disappointment."

This is not suprising. The Vatican has always been against abortion. However, we cannot allow religion to interfere with politics, Obama's decision was a good one.

The vatican's way of handling all of their pedophile priests was pretty disappointing--especially because they feel they are the mouthpiece for virtue and morality. I don't think the vatican should get a vote on anything.

Is anyone surprised by this? The official stance of the Catholic church is against ALL birth control, except for the mostly ineffective rythem method.

Are these the same people who "forgave" John Lennon like forty years after his death?

Might want to do a little research into the catholic church, pregnant nuns and abortion.
Could blow your mind.
Do as I say, not as I do.

kootr,

This is definitely not helping your cause against President Obama. The Roman Catholic Church has far too many stirkes against it to be preaching about righteousness. And frankly, the same goes for any organized religion. You cannot jump on a press release from the Vatican as more proof of President Obama's wayward ways, so to speak. Better do a tiny little bit of research on the politics of organized religions - and the Catholic Church - before you agree with one of their press releases. The story ain't pretty.
