Wow - Kudos to the President.

Obama: 'I screwed up' in Daschle withdrawal - White House- msnbc.com

Honestly, my respect for the man has been elevated today.

Quote:
“I screwed up,” President Barack Obama told NBC’s Brian Williams Tuesday in the wake of his nominee to be secretary of health and human services, Tom Daschle, withdrawing his name from consideration. Daschle dropped out after acknowledging that he had belatedly paid more than $128,000 in taxes owed to the federal government.
“Today was an embarrassment for us,” Obama said. He said he was “angry,” “disappointed” and “frustrated with myself” over the Daschle episode.

And the story goes on:
Daschle’s exit was the second of the day for an Obama appointee.
Nancy Killefer, Obama’s choice to be the government's first “chief performance officer,” bowed out, saying that she didn't want her failure to payroll taxes for her household employee to create a diversion from the president’s agenda.

Now I want to know, what, pray tell, is a "Chief Performance Officer", and why do we need one? More government waste and bureaucracy! Give me a break. And this isn't the only new position this man has created.

Wow!! Accountability in the White House, what a CONCEPT!!! I do like that he borrowed John McCain's Letterman line.

I'd like to think that he royally chewed out whomever pushed Obama to nominate Daschle and then chewed Daschle a new one.

Good for him, he owns up to his mistakes.

Now as long as he learns from them instead of repeating them, I think he'll make a pretty good president..

Hmmm...you dont think it's too little too late? I do.... He knew the score with Daschle and this woman, too; he was fine for both of them to go through, but we gummed up the works.

I guess we should be grateful he said something about it at all...

Good move. Many, many previous Presidents (and I certainly don't mean JUST Bush... Most of em) have been incapable of admitting when they've made mistakes. Some see that as a strategy to project strength. I see the ability to admit mistakes as a hallmark of credibility and responsibility.

And yes, delusianne. I do wish this had come sooner. I just hope this is more an indication of how things will go than some subpar picks.
