I am deeply concerned about the state of our nation because of the economic meltdown and the continued drop in the market yesterday.

On this forum, we argue about the president's birth certificate, who is at fault for the economic crisis (Republicans or Democrats), whether McCain or Obama should have been elected, whether the Republican or Democratic Congress is better or worse than the other.

Folks, we are in deep trouble. It is time to drop all of this crap and work together with our elected leaders or our country is gone. China owns us right now. We can fight, argue, disagree, and become angry, but the bottom line is that if we don't get over this rancorous bickering and work together to solve this crisis, the United States will be destroyed--not by political ideology--but by the economic problems caused by this depression. I am not calling it a recession any more. It has gone beyond that.

Read about the problems in Florida in this week's New Yorker. It is scary. The discussions as to how the problems got to the point they did are frightening. We have been led to this point by greedy corporations, greedy politicians--from both parties, and dishonest business people. We need to be discussing how we can help Congress and the President get things under control and make this country start moving forward again, or we are doomed.

The problem is this current administration hasn't made it possible for the average person to help the country. Having house parties to tell people to support the stimulus plan is merely party politics. Volunteering is great for community activism, but we need more than that now.

What is missing is the collective pull of the people. Where are the "stimulus bonds"? WWII had people scrimping and saving to buy war bonds. Why don't we have that now? Not every person can afford a $10,000 T bill, but people could scrape together $25, $50 to buy a bond. The govt could just use the EE bond for this purpose to minimize costs.

Germany had a better plan to help its car industry. It gave everyone $3K to trade in any old car to buy a new car. Why can't we do that? Instead we give 9 billion to an industry we know MUST shrink massively to survive. The car makers get the money and then lay off 10,000 tax payers. Gee, wasn't that a kick in the teeth to tax payers!

TARP 1 and 2 or better termed TURD, has just given the message that we will continue to hand over massive amounts of money to the same dysfunctional, greedy corporations who got us into this mess. To top it off, we put people in charge of it who were supposed to be the people preventing this mess from occurring. The cherry on the sundae is that we find out the new boss in charge of the IRS/Treasury doesn't even pay his taxes.

I am so angry on the incompetence of our goverment, both former and current. The only way we can "help" them is via the ballot. Vote out all of these morons. What happened to the "change" we were promised? Its the same old crap, with the same old politically connected network, and the taxpayer once again gets screwed.

Sorry for the vent.

It is stunning how anyone could possibly think Geithner was a good choice for Treasury Secretary, exactly because of the reasons you've listed above (which I've bolded). Why were so many people, mostly Obama supporters, okay with that? Why?

The Democrats will not go down as failures, but rather as successful. It has been their agenda to destroy capitalism, the IMC, and the rich for over 40 years. What they realize now is that capitalisim is the cornerstone of freedom, the best offense is a strong defense, and without the wealthy, there can be no middle class. There is no turning back.

We Democrats will go down as successful because we will have saved Market Capitalism from the insider traders, monopolists and government toadies that have nearly destroyed it.

Just three weeks into his Presidency.
