That is the dumbed down democrat version of it all, but not the truth by any means. George W. Bush's legacy will be keeping this country safe for 7 years after 9/11 and for freeing and transforming Iraq into one of the most progressive, democratic countries in the middle east. That is a legacy worth putting up with all of the stupid remarks from people like you.

According to this article, man Alaskans are not happy with Jindal. Palin hasn't commented, but her spokesperson said "Of course Alaskans want to know if a volcano is going to blow." Palin will probably respond, that it's the media's fault.

And from the late 50's through the mid 90's we had big spending Democrat majorities in control of the House that entire time, and in control of the Senate except for the brief period from 1980 - 1986. The last balanced budget was passed by a Republican Congress.
So it's only the period from Jan 2001 - Jan 2007 that you had a Republican President and Congress and obvious fiscal irresponsibility. The bursting tech bubble, 9/11 attacks, and war on terror were factors, but I agree that Republicans spent like drunken sailors and added to the structural deficit with spending like the Medicare prescription drug fiasco.
I don't recall the Democrats in Congress submitting or passing their own balanced budget in 2007 or 2008 when they had control, or any time in the 1970s, 1980s, or even 1990s (when they had control until 1995).

That sounds pretty convincing except that it overlooks a few "details" so lets look a little closer shall we and see how they left the countries finances? -
JFK - Democratic President/Democratic Congress (little to no deficit)
LBJ - Democratic President/Democratic Congress (little to no deficit)
NIXON - GOP President/Democratic Congress (little to no deficit)
FORD - GOP President/Democratic Congress (little to no deficit)
CARTER - Democratic President/Democratic Congress (little to no deficit)
REAGAN - GOP President/Democratic Congress (BIG deficit)
BUSH 1 - GOP President/Democratic Congress (BIG deficit)
CLINTON - Democratic President/Democratic then GOP Congress (started with the Bush 1 deficit and ended with a surplus)
BUSH 2 - GOP President/GOP Congress (started with Clinton surplus, ended with an ENORMOUS deficit).
During the VAST MAJORITY of that time with a Democratic Congress and Democratic President there was LITTLE TO NO deficit, It wasn't until Reagan took office that the US deficit SOARED. Bush 1 continued that bad practice, Clinton reversed it (with a GOP Congress admittedly) but then Bush 2 plunged us even deeper into debt (with that same GOP control of Congress).
It's pretty obvious that from JFK through Bush 2, the big spending Presidents have been from the GOP (though Nixon and Ford behaved well in this regard) - with Reagan being the one who started the big deficit spending (gee - maybe his tax cuts had a little something to do with that?).
Congress' record has been MIXED, with earlier Democratic Congress' and the GOP Congress during the Clinton era being restrained in their spending, but aside from those, all of them giving in to what the President wanted in regards to spending - and in the case of the Presidents, if they were GOP they SPENT BIG TIME.

I am aware that we consider bases as american soil- having family members born in Germany on a base- but really, is that any less American than Hawaii?
I most definitely don't think so.
Besides, even when living on a base here in America, it is not quite the "normal" american existance.
Hawaii was state when Obama was born .. not sure what you are getting at. I don't think you do either.
