WASHINGTON – This isn't just another wag-the-tail story: The Obamas are getting a dog in April and are looking for a rescue Portuguese Water Dog.

First lady Michelle Obama tells People magazine that the target date for the arrival of the family pet is after her daughters' spring break trip in April, though 7-year-old Sasha is convinced the dog is coming April 1.

"So Sasha says 'April 1st.' I said, 'April.' She says, 'April 1st.' It's like, April!" said Mrs. Obama.

Way to go first lady Meechelle......the country is in the worst finincial crisis in decades and you are talking about the family pet.

Don't think anyone cares. You and your husband just need to get to work and get the job done. Create the change you promised.

Why didn't they get those girls a puppy instead of a full grown dog to bond with. Your first dog should be a puppy.

No, a family's first dog should be an adult dog. Much easier to deal with. No reason why the kids can't bond with an adult dog.

You are kidding, you think they have to deal with much. They do have staff for the dirty work. Why don't they adopt a 35 year old too...lol.

Wow, people come up with any criticism, even about the dog.

And if they got a puppy, it would be "WHY AREN'T THEY RESCUING A DOG!"

I think it's BETTER to give an older dog a home rather than buying a puppy.

It's what you SOW, not sew.

I never made any snarky comments about good ol' Barney. Jeez. It's a dog. For kids.

Jeez. Thousands are losing jobs and homes. No one cares about the White House pet. Meechelle and Barry need to get in sync with the public sentiment and start showing some empathy, instead of worrying about the pet, Michelle's favorite Chicago restaurant, or her ugly mug on the face of fashion magazines.
