First off, Vaknin is a self-described Narcissist himself, and admits he runs his website as a source of "Narcissistic Supply" (a.k.a. "attention"). But if you bother to look up the actual clinical definition of Narcissism (NPD) in the Psychiatric DSM (http://personalitydisorders.suite101.com/article.cfm/narcissisticpd - broken link), you'll see that in addition to "Entitlement", it includes some other key symptoms:
- Is obsessed with fantasies of unlimited success, fame, fearsome power or omnipotence.
- Devoid of empathy, is unable or unwilling to identify with, acknowledge, or accept the feelings, needs, preferences, priorities, and choices of others.
Seems like that pretty well describes the mindset behind Iraq, Abu-Ghraib, Renditions, Waterboarding, Bush, Cheney, Neo-Cons, Limbaugh, O'Reilly, and most 'Wingers in general.....
Not to mention that Vankin doesn't have a background in psychology and his "Ph.D." is from an unaccredited university that is known for being a diploma mill.
One doesn't need a PhD to see this obvious fact. Everyone has narcissistic tendencies, a matter of degrees, but a true narcissist is on the extreme end of the spectrum. (Is thought to arise from an abusive or traumatic childhood.) Unfortunately there is no definitive treatment for this disorder, as a narcissist sees nothing wrong with himself. Insight into others may be remarkable but have little to NO insight involving themselves. For the most part treatments fail for the narcissist. The treatment efforts are usually more geared toward their victims. Suggestions anyone?
Actually, it describes Bush much more clearly.
1. Considers self above the law.
Like not reporting for NG physicals, calling the Constitution a "d****d
piece of paper," trying to pack the JD with partisan players, lying about
WMD, etc.
2. Bush said that he alone was "the decider." He was too narcissistic to even use the royal "we:" with Bush it was all I, me, my, mine.
3. Messianic vision of their "mission." Bush said he believed that God put
him in power.
4. Complex rules and jargon. Homeland Security comes to mind, along with
his endearing habit of giving people nicknames: hence Karl Rove became
"Fartblossom."
5. False modesty. Like trying to sound like a west Texas roughneck when
you aren't really a Texan, and the most you know about oil is how to
start a company called Arbusto and have it go busto.
6. Submerged aggression and holding grudges. As in, "Saddam Hussein,
you wanted to kill my Poppy, so I'm going to topple your regime whether
it's ethical or legal or not."
7. Eternal adolescent with a sense of entitlement. The landing on the
aircraft carrier was so under the radar that we barely saw it. SO very
mature. Sense of entitlement? Well, aren't the Bushes American royalty?
Except for brother Neil, who got caught. Not in family photos any more.

Just too bad this thread isn't at all about Bush. It's about Obama, but in your usual mode of operation, you seem unwilling to accept that.

These are good points, but don't think Bush has the actual disorder. He is an addictive personality and as such blinds him to good decisionmaking skills. He probably also was spoiled and did not have to be held accountable growing up...also not just real bright. Too bad a psych eval not done on ALL politicians before allowed into office, to wreak havoc on the unsuspecting.

We have eight years of evidence concerning Bush, and nothing but speculation about President Obama...barely 100 days into his administration. I just call it like I see it. It seems to have struck a nerve.

I don't believe that anyone could go through the electoral process and take the job of president without many of these characteristics. They apply to both Bushes, to Nixon, to Clinton, to Reagan, and to Obama etc.
Finally, an intelligent post. If only the bozos on both sides could realize this
