No, the Bush of 2004 went wrong by bending over and giving Democrats every program they asked for, knowing darn well he would get no credit for it, and actually blame. Perscrpitions for seniors, increased health benefits for the poor are just 2 examples..

What made George W. Bush such an effective speaker to his supporters?

I think the answer is self-evident: They were even dumber than HE was.

He did not rely on a TelePrompter like someone we know that can't seem to put 2 sentences together without one.

Soccersupporter .... PROVE IT!

Obama does not use teleprompters when responding to questions during the Q&A at Presidential Press Conferences.

Show me a video from any Q&A session from any Presidential Press Conference, where Obama had speaking difficulties?

I'll be waiting ....

Most folks I know that voted Bush did so for just a couple of reasons.
1. The alternative was worse.
2. They believed that America was under attack and it wasn't the time to change leadership.
As for what people liked about his speach manerisms.
He usually spoke like a regular guy. Poke fun at his vocabulary but have you ever listened to small town people talk?
NEPA:
hanna or no? H pronounced like Ha che.
Gimme two or tree.
Go to Maryland small towns same thing just different slang.
Go down south and just try to understand every word you hear.
Sad to say but Bush spoke like many small town americans.
