How about some good ole' maple syrup for Canada Day on July 1st?
The same reason many Americans celebrate Cinco de Mayo, or Oktoberfest, or St. Patrick's Day. And, who cares? Why does it matter to you?

It indicates nothing about what I'm thinking (or feeling) on the issue.

It does indicate that I don't have something better to do at the moment and am very bored.

No kidding! Perhaps the OP means to suggest that any celebration of our
country's cultural diversity is a very bad thing. Cancel the margaritas and
Mexican food, rename several states, stop the bar-b-ques, no more green beer in March, forget Valentine's Day...cancel all holidays, in fact. People having a good time is just plain wrong!

Puritanism - the sneaking suspicion that somewhere, somehow, someone has the audacity to actually dare to have fun.

Now, ain't that the truth? Calvin, Knox and Farel would feel right at home in such an environment. It's a shame we weren't settled by England much earlier; King Charles II would have been much more fun!

FYI,
I haven't seen 1 thing about 5 de Mayo in San Antonio, TX (150 miles from Mexico)
Seems like "5 de Mayo" is more American than Mexican.
