Let's put it this way: If you suddenly receive a raise and discover that your male colleagues had been earning more than you for years, that would
be change you can believe in, as Obama signed the Lily Ledbetter Act his
first day in office. The havoc wreaked by the Bush Gang will take several
years to even begin to repair; some economists believe that the US will never again enjoy a level of affluence such as the one they destroyed. But
Obama's ruined everything in 5 months? Such a contention is ludicrous or
credulous...neither is good.
Obama has made things worse. Had he implemented a reasonable stimulus (including cutting Government spending, cutting corporate taxes, cutting if not suspending taxes on capital gains and dividends and allowing for accelerated depreciation of CapEx spending) we would have (IMO) lost a lot less jobs than we have under Obama or even started adding jobs.

Ledbetter was just a bribe to the trial lawyers who control the (D) party (along with unions, environmental activists and others). So the Ledbetter fair pay act compensates for the loss of 2.5 million jobs? That is probably going to cost jobs itself (though not many) as it raises regulatory and legal hurdles.

He has nationalized Autos, Banks, Mortgages and in trying to take over Healthcare. The 2009 deficit was expected to be around $ 600 Billion on Inauguration day; it's not going to exceed $ 2 Trillion. Cap and Trade will be a complete disaster, if it is signed into law (which is unlikely). Foreigners are losing faith in our currency to the point where Chinese students laighed at Tim Geithner when he said our currency was sound.

Certain Economic policies promote growth. Economics is a Science so we know what works and what doesn't. Smaller Government, free trade, lower taxes, minimal regulation, less unions, etc are policies that work to promote growth. Obama supports policies opposite these, which promote misery. His record is atrocious thus far: 2.5 millions jobs down the tube in the first 5.5 months. That number could easily exceed 4 million by the end of the year. Some people think the decrease in job losses last month was an anomaly and it's likely that the June 2009 number will be worse than the May 2009 number. The Economists who saw this crash coming (Nouriel Roubini, Peter Schiff, etc) say the Economic downturn has barely started and Schiff says Obama's policies are making things much worse.

Right...continue the failed GOP tenet of corporate cronyism and allowing the creation of monopolies
that have caused this economic crisis. And jobs are beginning to appear, as Obama's loans to small
businesses have begun.

Are you suggesting that women don't deserve to earn the equivalent of their male counterparts, especially with the large number of single-income families headed by single women? Compassionate
conservatism? "Trial lawyers..." The GOP mantra is becoming clearer.

As has been posted elsewhere (and ignored due to its inconvenience), there is no nationalization; any large corporation that goes belly-up is under federal regulation. Our "dollar" was losing its value
during the last year, possibly two, of Bush 43.

Oh, yeah...union busting and breaks for corporations have worked splendidly for the average American worker. The same old GOP, wanting to continue failed policies and blaming everyone but themselves when it falls apart. Was your only source the WSJ?

The things proposed by LIS123 do not lead to real economic growth but do result in a short term speculative boom and the inevitable crash that leaves the economy worse off than before except for the few investors that started the speculation. Obama's policies will dampen the speculation that has nearly ruined us and result in a real growth in the American economy as we adjust to the current realities and do not remain mired in the mythic Republican past.

Many more of our younger (and not so younger) voters realize the difficulties they face have been created by the Republican economic policies and damaging warmongering and have decided to vote their pocketbooks despite the idealistic propaganda provided by the GOP.

IMHO – everything this poster proposes is straight from the Limbaugh version of the Republican Party Line and should be considered as complete nonsense.

So far so good. The 2nd derivative is positive. This indicates a change to the proper direction. It will probably take the rest of this year for actual increases in employment to be recorded. Then the rate will increase through 2009 & 2010. By 2012 we should be in fairly good shape.

My real estate buddies are prediciting late 2010 as the beginning of a turnaround in the housing market. 2012 sounds reasonable to have the engine tuned and running again.

One is their diversity. As Keeter notes, the GOP is "almost entirely a party made up of whites, and it has struggled to find a way to appeal to minorities."
Voters 30 and over in 2008 were 77% white, according to exit polls. Voters under 30 were 62% white. The party's need to do better with young voters goes hand in hand with its need to do better with black, Hispanic and Asian voters.

The other challenge is cultural, says Keeter, director of survey research for the Pew Research Center.

Young voters are less socially conservative than the electorate as a whole on issues ranging from homosexuality to immigration. They are also more secular and participate less in organized religion. In a recent Pew poll, 25% of Americans born since 1976 were atheist, agnostic or "nothing in particular" - compared with 13% of baby boomers.

"Young voters need to see a GOP that is more socially libertarian, particularly toward gay rights. With changing demographics come changing attitudes," Republican consultant Mike Murphy wrote in Time magazine this month, lamenting in the same column that "A GOP ice age is on the way."

GOP nearing brink of generation gap - JSOnline

I was just watching an episode of South Park (Die, Hippie Die) online and I was thinking conservative groups should advertise more on Comedy Central.

Big government intrusiveness - I don't get why it is appealing to anyone to have the government with it's nose up your butt or why it would be okay for the government to tell you what kind of light bulbs you have to have, how your thermostat should be set, what kind of food you can and can't put in your own mouth, what kind of car you should drive, what kind of medical treatment you can and can't have and when you can have it, what kind of windows and appliances you have to have in your home in order to be able to sell it, etc. This federal government overstepping its bounds should be a no brainer. Is America's youth so stinkin' lazy that they want a government mommy to wipe their butts for them?

The problem is the Republicans haven't done a good job of translating big government intrusivess and what it means to individuals. People need to know, how does this law/bill impact me individually? Repubs still talk pie in the sky level and people who don't pay attention aren't getting it. Also, if the government intrusiveness means big business will benefit financially, they don't give the Democrats a hard enough time and people are starting to wise up to that...like the imigration debacle, the nationalized healthcare database and some energy plans.

That is why I fear a repeat of 2000. I see Republicans having to resort to theft of elections to compete, and they are proven at this. Its criminal and unconstitutional that someone like Karl Rove, Jeb Bush and Katherine Harris allowed the 8 disastrous years of George W. Bush to even be possible by sending the decision to a partisan Supreme Court.

All elections will be close, no matter who is running. When it comes down to it the Republicans have proven themselves skillful at vote fraud, and that was repeated somewhat in Ohio in 2004.

The GOP will fail to derail Obama - because the economy will eventually come around - and the deficits will shrink - and unemployment will shrink - and then the public will see the GOP as the pure-obstructionists they truly have become, and nothing more... Then the GOP will really be toast...
