This one made me laugh coming from such a liberal magazine-

I would also like to here everyone's opinion on extremist views in general. Do you think they hurt, or hinder, our nation's government and the national politacal debate.
Can't wait to hear your thoughts. Thanks!

I have to ask, too: What are the extremist views that bother the author of the thread, and how are they dominating the discussion?
Yes, the louder voices get more media attention, but then that's why we have our political system. Everyone has an opportunity to vote, and everyone has a right to challenge a law if they don't like it.
It's not a perfect system, but it's pretty close.

I did a thread on this a while back.
My take: News must generate money. The best way to do that is to garner solid viewers, and to do that one must aim at specific markets.

Extremists don't dominate. They just make more noise.

Let's be honest, Extremists are not the most educated and economically stable individuals. Listen to people who call in to radio talk shows. They can barely put a sentence together and nearly all of their statements are not supported by any evidence. People who are successful and mentally stable will not wait for hours on hold to say something for 30 seconds on the radio. How many people with stable jobs can take the day off to protest something. How many stable people can post on internet messageboards 24/7. I'm not the least bit suprised the opinions are so extreme on the political forum because think of the people it attracts.
I don't think they impact policy. They are just entertainment. People ultimately vote. An extremist can have the loudest voice but loud voices don't provide that individual with multiple ballots. They will have one vote just like the non-extremist.
