I watched Gov. Crist out of his own mouth say on C-Span that the Stimulus Bill has saved and provided thousands of jobs in Florida. He went on to pretty much say that the Republicans who were saying that the stimulus created no jobs were wrong and that Washington needs to get something done.
I said to myself, as someone who was born and raised in Florida, that that statement is going to cause him a lot of problems from the hacks who see nothing but R or D behind someone's name. He did not pull the Republican Company line of "No" on the question and told the truth as to what was going on in his state.

Note this is just a blog and its an opinion, but I have seen several similar articles in the last few days. At least one or two from Florida newspapers. If any possible truth to this remains to be seen, but its interesting nonetheless.
There would be some risk, but if it looks like he's doomed to lose against Rubio, I think it would be a good move. I think Crist is liked enough among Democrats and independents that it could be a winning strategy in a three-way race.
I have to say, good for him for being intellectually honest, although in the end almost all if not all Republican Governors took the stimulus money, and it did help balance the budgets. I interned for my state's legislature last year. Our hugely Libertarian-Republican governor accepted the money without any qualms, he may have ideologically been against it, but at least he didn't pretend to feign outrage while accepting it, like so many other members of the GOP have.
Crist was honest about it, he accepted it, so he really couldn't be against it. It was a lot easier for Rubio to be against it since he was an out of office former speaker. Besides that, so he hugged the President? What should he have done? Spit on him? Political disagreement is no need to not be civil and show respect for a nation's leader.
However, back on topic, if Crist runs as an Independent, he secures a victory for the Democrats.

This could result in a pick up for the Democrats if it does happen. One difference between this and Lieberman is if it does happen its likely to happen prior to the Primary than after it. The Lieberman case is also a bit different due to the fact the Dems have a real candidate and are seriously contending this race. In CT the GOP wasn't contending the race and were running a complete no name and sacrificial lamb.

If he pulls an Independent run, we'll have to watch who supports him from among other politicians and big donors.
