Now please, I'm not trying to start an argument here but I really think this is a perfect example of why I mention a double standard. Does anyone really think there's been a presidential candidate in the past century if not longer that wasn't power hungry? I don't think anybody makes it to the White House without lusting for power.
We read so much that women make less for doing the same job as men, that they suffer discrimination, and then people try to continue that scenario. And I've seen far too many single moms go through just about anything to take care of their kids after daddy skips out to believe that women are inherently the 'weaker sex'.
Did anybody knock Ronald Reagan for not being one to sit around and bake cookies? Or Harry Truman? Or Nixon, JFK, .......................?

Very well said. Anyone who expects ANY President or Presidential candidate to be the type to "sit around and bake cookies," as opposed to being "power hungry" seriously needs to wake the eff up. As far as I can tell, NO President in history has been the type of person to "sit around and bake cookies." Presidents are not expected to be domesticated types...they're expected to be powerful, commanding, intelligent, outgoing, fair, and balanced people...domestic qualities are not prerequisites to running for office, nor should they be.
She's not running for President of the PTA or HOA, for Pete's sake...she's running for freaking leader of the free world.

Well, I, as a female, think Hillary Clinton possess no qualities to be a president. You can name all the examples that you want of our past presidents who have fallen short of less than a spectacular presidency but I'm still sticking to my opinion. I for one will note vote for Hillary Clinton as the first female president or for president. Period. I'm all for women's rights, equal pay, powerful jobs what have you but I'm not voting for her just b'c I think, "Hey, it's about friggin' time we had a woman president." There is no double standard in my book and it ain't about discriminating against women either. I just don't like her. I dont' trust her; I don't like her and I think she's a lying cheat.

Well I think there's far more than one lying cheat running for POTUS in both parties.
I'm not tryng to portray Hillary as good or bad but for women in general it occurs to me that feminists were one of the groups that Mr Falwell and Mr Robertson were pointing fingers at after 9/11.
I think there's still a sizeable portion of the population that believes the role of women should be barefoot, pregnant, and speaking only when spoken to.
That's a shame because it eliminates a large number of potential candidates and that pool and the country need all the help they can get.

I am a fan of neither Fallwell nor Robertson and think a lot of the stuff they've said on tv is pretty - with all do respect - stupid.

I am definitely for women's rights and think that's a load of crap that there are still folks who have old-fashioned views like that.

I'm all for a female candidate but in my heart of hearts, I don't think Clinton is the right one!

I've said it before but I'll say it again: There will be a woman President, and that President will be a Republican. Mark my words.

Who do you see as the best possibilities?
I'm no great fan of Hillary but more than a year away from nomonations I'm not looking seriously at anyone yet. Much can change in a minute, nevermind a year +. It remains to be seen if I'll actually be able to vote for someone or if once again I'll be voting against the other candidate.

A couple of weeks ago I attended a campaign event centered on Mrs. Obama. Now here is a strikingly qualified woman candidate. Smart, thoughtful, attentive and level headed and very, very smart.
Forget the rest - I go for a Mrs. Obama for POTSU and Mr. Obama for VP

I think the difference is motive and tactics to get where one is going.... Are there any in the last 100 years that weren't "power hungry"??? Actually yeah, most likely. There are probably many idealists out there who run to effect a positive change and perhaps aren't so reluctant to be the vehicle of that change.....
What I would also say is that we can't look at this of power hungry or not, but look at it as to what degree the individual "lusts for power". We need to temper the language a bit because there are many past Presidents who I'd submit weren't necessarily "lusting for power", but simply were thrust forward by thier party as the most likeable guy at the time. Heck, in that regard I'd even submit GW Bush as one of them. I don't thing he was so much "lusting for power" but the Republican party saw him as a viable candidate who could win.....
In Hillary's case we can simply go back and look at some of the moves she's been willing to make to advance up the political ladder. Staying with Bill being one, and I know I'll catch flak, but I believe becoming a senator from New York as being another.... No she's not the first to become a senator from a state one is not familiar with, but then she's not the first that I'd label as "power hungry" either.....
