I guess TV and internet will be merged into a one network very soon. Because as Annie567 said, you can watch TV shows through the internet, but not otherwise. So it actually makes sens to move TV broadcasting to the internet, why not? TV companies will not lose anything.
I would give up my TV than lose my Internet. I can watch a lot of great things online, even most TV shows, and on regular TV I am stuck with what's on and most of that is boring, so I usually play a movie on the DVD or recorder. I am my own TV programmer.
If my computer had a 60 inch screen and was hooked to my surround sound system, I would get rid of the TV.
There is a simple way to do this. Buy a 60 inch TV with HDMI inputs, buy a cheap computer with no monitor, and set up your own Computer Home Entertainment Center.
That's what I did with my 32 inch Smart TV.
