Ron White.

I like to get drunk in pub-lick then go home and sit on my beanbag chair naked eating Cheetos.

And watching Robert Tilton.

"Are you lonely? Are you preoccupied with pursuing sins of the flesh...?"

I'm not sure they qualify as comedians as much as "life observers", but for me, George Carlin and Lewis Black are my favorites.

As for Americans - I like Ellen ( doesn't matter what she does I like her in most things - I thought She was great hosting the oscars - only reason I watched that crap show
I'll second Eddie Izzard - seen him live a couple of times. He seems to be moving more in the direction of acting now though. I do like his earlier stuff best.

Also Bill Bailey is wonderful live, I nearly hyperventilated quite a bit.

Others i like:

Marcus Brigstocke
Dylan Moran (anyone seen the sitcom Black Books? It's genius)
Dave Gorman

Marcus Brigstocke ( my favourite)
Paul Merton ( love Him)
Rich Hall
Josie Lawrence
Dave Gorman
Eddie Izzard ( though standards do vary)
Omid Djalili
Bill Bailey
Ellen De Generes
Bette Middler
Not as a stand-up I don't think, but as a comedian and raconteur Sandi Toksvig is fantastic

I saw Mark Watson in Oxford last week and he was quite funny but no way near as witty and sharp as some.

I love whose line is it anyway especially with Ryan Stiles , Mike Mc Shane and Greg Proops.
