To me, the year 2010 seemed culturally identical to 2009, though somewhat different from say, 2004. I would still say it had mostly a 00s vibe, after all, Eminem was the biggest musical artist of 2010, but I do notice something of a new "2010s" vibe coming through. I notice fashion has finally ditched the 90s grunge/gangsta thing that held on for so long and is becoming more 80s-like and neon. I even think big hair has made a small comeback!

But really it's pretty normal for the first year of a decade to feel like still the previous decade - 1980 is very 70s styled, 1990 is very 80s styled, 2000 was still very 90s.

Do you think there will be a shift in pop culture in 2011? Or are we stuck with what was popular in the 00s for another decade?

I'm 33. I find the sight of people my age and older wearing clothes from our childhoods - i.e. leggings (which look awful on 90% of people) - really funny. I've been noticing a lot of 80's trends for the last few years but especially this year.

2011 is just as much part of the 10s as 2015!

It is but my 8 Ball says I'll have a better grasp of the decade then...

It is possible based on history. 1980 was a big change in direction from 1979 and 1991 launched us in a new direction as grunge allowed for a more unpolished "punkish" sound to be more popular.

I hope we get a shift, there really isn’t any popular music that I like right now. Of course I felt that way in the late 80’s also.

I think the whole decade will be remembered for being over-sexed and self-indulgent. Everything can be taken to the extreme of it becoming harmful....and I think we are dangerously close to that thin line.

well if Justin B is any indication, we could be in for a few more years of Disney-esque pop music formulated to appeal to tweeners & middle school kiddies. I'm not going to judge though since even Motown of the 60's --artfully crafted to woo teen girls-- churned out many classic R&B hits.

Usually, a decade doesn't develop a trend until about the third year in, or sometimes even later. Check back in 2013-2014.

So, the answer is "none of the above" for me.

The beginning of an extreme narcissistic mentality? I think of everyone glued to their Facebook and Twitter accounts, and now those smartphone things that people cannot put down. My two cents.
