Fearmongers will always shout about privacy issues no matter what the site. Yesterday is was Windows; today, it's Facebook; tomorrow it will be Google +. Who knows what it will be the next day?
The solution is simple. If you do not wish for your "private" information to get out, then do not put it online - anywhere. There is no such thing as "privacy" online, and anyone who thinks so is simply fooling themselves.

So, people who have had their private information openly shared online by Facebook's gaffs are fearmongers? Facebook is notorious for their many blunders and underhanded objectives. That's hardly fearmongering. It's reality.

I agree. There are just too many strange minds out there in cyberspace. I don't want to open myself up to strangers. Why would anyone want strangers looking at their stuff? Maybe I watch too many of those true crime presentations on tv, but I like to screen people a bit before I befriend them, and that's better done face to face.
Gosh, would I be nervous if I had a pre teen kid these days.

facebook is very unsafe. Fact if you die all anyone has to do is get your death certif scan send it to them and have access to your account voila. IF they decide to disable your account for any reason they feel so they have all your info photos etc. there are people for no reason their acounts were disabled and fb would not allow them to retrive photos they become the property of fb. Lot of people have problems with their account passwords being hacked all the time even M.Z's the creator of fb account has been hacked.

What ever you post on the web is there forever and while you rave on in you teens about some terrible injustice twenty years later the same rant will put you under as you run for an office you never expected to be involved with.
Another issue is data harvesting. There are businesses that collect date from anywhere they can. FB is a prime source and public records are another. They collect drips and drabs of info on everyone they can and then consolidate it to sell to anyone who has an interest.
Ownership is another issue. When you post anything to FB and many other sites those sites then have ownership over that post.
If you have real friends, not virtual ones, go out and have a cup of coffee with them. Make eye contact and share experiences in real time. Find a really close friend, one you can trust with your life,
and reciprocate the favor.
I heard on the news that MZ has 400.000 FB friends. I wonder if he can name them.
