I see the English language as DEvolving, and don't see that as positive for a society, which has already deteriorated to such a low, low level.
I wholeheartedly agree, lilypad. We just can't read, write, or spell anymore, let alone care. People just need to realize how important our language is, and how important it is for us to try to preserve it. I'm with you. Let's all hope it doesn't get worse.

It's gotten so stale, I feel like I'm in the 'hood. And we need to get out of it.

I think the writers from Friends should have their heads clunked together for making these types of things so common.
Forgive me, but it is so not good for our society. They should so break up that Hollywood group, and so now!!
Some people who try to be fashionable overuse the phrase "per se" when describing or comparing something. Worse yet, when they write it, they spell it "per say." Say what??
How about when people try to sound intelligent and they use words that they don't even know the meaning to? They make themselves sound like idiots.
True. They do need to learn meanings and definitions and understand the contexts in which a word is used. But look on the bright side; at least, they gave it an effort.

Haha. I've seen someone try to be smart and spell bourgeois "bushwa."
1. "it is what it is"
2. "at the end of the day"
3. "ewww!"
4. "wow."
5. "omg"
6. "really?!"
I'm laughing at this thread. I think I have used (or continue to use) all of those quotes except #3 and #5 and I'm also guilty of using "not so much". I have to say this all increased when I moved to Los Angeles but I'm probably going to be more mindful about saying these things now. My pet peeve is when someone begins a sentence with "I hope this doesn't offend you..." I also don't like "true that" (AKA: "true dat").
I'm am so tired of hearing someone who is attractive being called "hot". "She's sooo hot, he's smokin hot!" There are TOO many words out there to describe an attractive person. What happen to sexy, handsome, beautiful, pretty, voluptuous, gorgeous, cute, nice build, etc? Lower our standards when speaking and boil down every attractive person into the category of "hot"? It's inane!
How about...Man, I'm blowin' up! (In regards to cell phone) I like totally find this annoying, and like don't know why? OH MY GAWWWDDD! :-) Sorry, I couldn't resist!
