The extra "dimension" of information Youtube gives is the anonymous, candid set of comments. Many are just hilarious and brilliant. They come from different personalities, perspectives, trains of thought, etc. The mix often captivates me.

Case in point: when I was playing JV football back in the 80s this song by Billy Idol came out on MTV.

One poster knows superQuivvie writes "I did some research and apparently this song is about sex".
Another person, Mad Mark, responds as "Nah man, it's all about flying RC helicopters."

I just rolled over laughing on that and got stomach cramps. The comment section on Youtube is awesome - very unique and brilliant in many cases.

Only watch YouTube for how to videos. Don't see other benefits.

I pretty much consider YouTube "television" now so I would say I am watching more as I pretty much never watched TV.

Songs, funny clips, movies, documentaries, how to, old TV shows etc

Actually, with all of the interruptions from commercials on the Tube, watching alternative video sites instead.
