I'm not sure how you record them (I'm technically challenged when it comes to this kind of thing) but I'm pretty sure if it's for personal use and you are the owner of the dvds in question it's not illegal.

Why not? People record all the time. From vhs to vhs, or from a dvd to another, straight from an HBO channel to a dvd or vhs....as long as youre not planning on trying to make money on it...

I agree. It clearly says its alright for "private use". I guess you can do it long as you're not going to sell copies in the parking lot.

As long as it is for private use you're ok. Technically if you made a copy and gave it to someone, although you're not making money from it, it is still frowned upon as unethical by the producers of the video/dvd/cd.

As far as making a copy, buy a vhs/dvd combo (all-in-one) that has a dvd burner. You just play the vhs and burn it to the dvd. They're pretty cheap, about $100.
