Plenty of after-market options for CD and even cassette(!) if one looks hard enough. Use Crutchfield's fitment search to find one for your personal vehicle.

I don't need internet to access my digital media.

If the power went out, my laptop would still work. Your TV and DVD player probably wouldn't.

I buy video game discs in case I want to resell to Gamestop. I stopped buying CDs for years, but recently have picked them up to play in the car (which still has a disc player) and also because CD quality (and vinyl for that matter) are superior to MP3 and in many cases FLAC files. I've bought two DVDs in the past year, but generally it's rare to have movies I like to watch more than once.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but laptops still need to be charged.

So if you hadn't charged it in a while, and the power went out...

Mine stays plugged in. So my laptop will work 8-10 hours longer than the TV and DVD player will.

If it stays plugged in, doesn't it run the risk of running hot? I've never liked laptops. I know some brands are better than others, e.g. Lenovo > Dell, and so on.

Nope. Especially not if it's off. I just turned on my laptop and put it on my lap (I'm wearing shorts) and the aluminum case was startlingly cold.

I've never liked desktops. I prefer the flexibility to take my computer wherever.

I buy digital media if I am traveling and find some local music. Same with local artists. Same shopping in other towns and I find a Papagayo CD that I hear playing in one of their boutiques.
