In books, probably Enzo, the dog in The Art of Racing in the Rain.

TV, like apexgds I really liked most of the main characters from The West Wing and for someone more recent Neal Caffrey from White Collar.

From a movie perhaps Vincent Gambini and Mona Lisa DeVito from My Cousin Vinny. Henry Fonda's character in 12 Angry Men.
