It sounds like we all forgot someone that should be an easy answer, especially for comic book readers, Spider-Man himself, Peter Parker. C'mon, Parker is so relatable and unlike other teenage heroes wasn't written off as a sidekick to a known hero (Robin, Bucky Barnes, Captain Marvel Jr. etc.) Also Spider-Man was a vulnerable hero who got sick, had to deal with work/life balance, keeping his secret identity to protect Aunt May, Gwen Stacy, Mary Jane Watson and anyone else close in his life.

As a fellow never-nude I love Tobias Funke too but my absolute favorite character is Omar Little from The Wire. It's so rare to have a gay character that's also bad ass. Gimme a box of Newport and some Honey Nut.
