I put this in
Entertainment instead of
Education, because I listen to these CDs for my own entertainment. I had never heard of "the Great Courses" until a few years ago when I received a catalog in the mail. They are CDs and DVDs of college-level courses, taught by recognized professors all over the US, and put out by an outfit called the Teaching Company.

Many of the courses in the catalog looked interesting (I'm a history nerd and there were a lot of history courses) but the prices kind of put me off. Still, I kept the catalog, thinking I might justify splurging one day.
Then I found that there are a lot of
used copies of these courses on Amazon and Ebay. The prices are great compared with the prices for new courses, and I don't care if someone else has listened to a CD before me.
I love listening to these at home and in my car! I like to read a lot, but I can't seem to read while driving
so these CDs are a great option.
My favorites so far have been:
The Early Middle Ages
The High Middle Ages
The Late Middle Ages
The Story of Medieval England
The Story of Human Language
Does anyone else enjoy these lectures? Have you accumulated a decent sized library of them? Which courses did you like best? Am I just a hopeless nerd?
