I was talking with someone the other day who used that phrase and said how classical he was, that it was from the 60's. Only to find out that it has a modern reference or two.

So off the top of your head, in an instant, identify what "Miss Independence" is to you.

The only reference I can come up with is the Kelly Clarkson song, but technically that's "Miss Independent."

Black chick explaining that she doesnt NEED a man and that she can do it all all by herself.

Hope this doesnt come off as being against TOS as I am in no way shape or form racist, but "off the top of my head" as you mentioned, that is exactly what comes to mind.

Well, the person I was talking to said, I think, it was the stage name of a drag queen which I didn't know. My 60's reference and knowledge of the "name" was that it was the title of "That Girl" before they decided on the now well known.

Well, I stick by my answer to your question in the OP about what "miss independence" means to me. Black chick, attitude, stressing how she can do things in her own life without the need for a man. I stand by that.

Not sure how it can be a 60's reference if they ended up not using it?

Developmental names are like that. That's what "it" was before but when it was presented to the public, it was something different.

Sort of like that infamous flick Stallone was in, "The Party". (as I recall, that was the title on his contract)

I've never taken an interest in abandoned names of films. Don't think I know a single one. If they aren't used, IMO they aren't a cultural reference.
