...some people I've met are able to wave goodbye like Spock from Star Trek. you know, when he splits his fingers into a V and goes "live well and prosper" or something like that. hmm, how does one learn how to do all that? I've googled it to no avail.

LOL, serious question?

Palm facing you.....grab and hold on to your pinkie and ring finger....now move the other 2 fingers making the V.
Do that for a few hours to train the muscles in your hand.

That is what I did when I was a kid.

good luck, live long and prosper.

lol, I've deliberated over this more than I did multi-variable physics! when I stepped into my bosses office
to brag about my Star Trek knowledge and he waved to me like Spock my day was totally ruined

I'm guessing it's like people wriggling their ears, rolling their tongues, or flexing their toes independently. Some people can do it easily, some with a lot of practice, and some not at all.
I can do it with one hand easily, the other hand with a bit of concentration.

It takes a lot of practice. I can do it easily on my left hand, it takes a bit more effort for the right. Of course I grew up with Star Trek so I started practicing when I was in high school. You have to train the muscles in your fingers.

Are you referring to the one used in "Enterprise Incident" where spoke used it on Captain Kirk to simulate death; or the Vulcan Nerve pinch; which renders the person unconscious for a while?
