"Calvin and Hobbes", hands down. Best comic strip ever.

A very close second to this would be "The Far Side". Larson's twisted sense of humour was so wonderful, made me question how sane I really was.

I loved "Peanuts" back in the day too, and "For Better Or For Worse" was pretty good too.

yeah, I liked Beetle Bailey a lot..

In addition to the printed strip, Davis had an animated Garfield series in the late 80s. Recently rewatched the 1987 Christmas special on DVD (it's also on YouTube).
Anyways, a really good episode, with some pretty mature dialogue from Jon's grandmother reminiscing on her deceased husband's love for the holiday.. Whole episode was a good balance of humor & sentiment. Showed a nice creative depth, that I think comics/cartoons aren't given full credit for..
