There was a story on the local news along with pictures this morning about Beyonce's twins. And?

I honestly do not understand the infatuation people have with celebrities. It's great her and Jay-Z had twins. But to waste a minute or so on the local news to tell me about it? I'm not talking about TMZ or the other celebrity TV shows out there as they can talk about this ad nauseum. To make a local news station is crazy IMO, and of course I blame the producers of the news for making it a story.

I didn't even realize she had her twins yet. I haven't seen it on local news. However, it's been going on for years, only now it's more prevalent. I'm too young to remember it but there were scandals that were all over the papers years ago with Sophia Loren, Ingrid Bergman, Marilyn Monroe, Sinatra, etc.

Am not interested in Beyonce at all; however, we all have our preferences.

The media is mainly responsible for over exaggerating her pregnancy . . .but then, isn't the media always the first to make a big deal about anything?

I'm not a big fan of hers, but she's a huge star and I know quite a few people who were very interested in hearing about her twins even though I personally didn't care. Having said that, there are some celebrities that I like very much and would want to hear news about, so I can't say that I don't understand why people were interested.

I don't get it either. These are complete strangers, that pay good money to make sure you - the great unwashed public - don't get within a hundred miles of them. It's beyond bizarre.

I don't get the infatuation with local news, which usually features precious little that is both local and news. Which is why I never bother watching it, though I do occasionally see it when I'm visiting someone or there's a television on in public where I have to be.

News is entertainment. Infotainment. It exists to gain viewership. A lot of people like celebrity details. A lot of people also like the mostly-pointless filler than comprises 'local news'. Even for what news exists therein - why watch someone talking about news? Television is a woefully inefficient means of transmitting information. It's a lazy way to consume news, even when you can find a program that actually consists mostly of useful news. When I want information, I read, which is a far more efficient means of gathering it, not to mention more convenient.

It's news for people that follow celebrities. Same as if one of the Royals get married or a celebrity gets divorced.

That baffles me, too, that people care so much about the royals.

People like what they like. Surely there are things that you're into that I don't give a crap about and vice versa.

It mystifies me too... but then, this fascination with celeb lives goes back a long, long way. Newspapers had celeb gossip articles back in the 1800s... funny but true. Starlets whose names have long since been forgotten, they were in Hollywood magazines in the 1920s... 1960s... never changes.
