I was hanging out with a coworker's daughter. She and I were both really tall and he had talked us into going to some tall people club. We ditched it because we were 22 and everyone there seemed to be about 40, and then we went to a bar where a band was playing that she knew. We noticed in the car that they were playing all Beatles songs, and then I guess at the bar we heard the news.

I was not a big Beatles fan and even less a John Lennon fan. They were my older sisters' time, and although I might have to duck flying rotten tomatoes for this, I find Lennon's voice annoying, a British accent with a stuffed-up nose, and I do not like the song "Imagine". I think it's silly and treacly.

But, I was sorry that he was killed. It was stupid and a wasteful death. A couple of years later when they made that little Strawberry Fields section in Central Park, a friend and I went to look at it, and we were like, "That's it?" A little mosaic circle with the word, "Imagine" inside. Not impressive.

Why 38 years? Most people do 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, eh maybe 25. But 38? The OP is a very unique individual.

I was 13 the summer of 1982. That was a great time:

* ET came out - the article was in the middle-school magazine that spring. The movie was awesome.
* I was practicing for 8th grade football as one of the captains
* Yar's Revenge was a popular Atari game that summer
* I did a lot of bass fishing in the mountains or swimming in the desert lakes/rivers

I spent hours per day playing this game that summer if I wasn't training for football or fishing/swimming - lol. The graphics are very old compared to modern Xbox One or PS4. But it was elite for its time.

Too young at only five years old, but I do remember Reagan getting shot, the Challenger explosion and 9/11 attacks. So at this point Lennon being dead is just something that has always been, but I can imagine the shock and mourning for everyone when it happened.

I was pregnant with my last child, had 3 other kids at home, and was working full time. Hectic times, but good times. DH and I had been married 3 years, and were full of youthful optimism. Would I go back? Probably not.
